Andy Kelly: my favorite football player.

My favorite football player of all time is Arena Football League quarterback Andy Kelly.  Here is a book I wrote about him.

Andy Kelly is currently playing with the Detriot Fury in the Arena Football League. But how did Andy Kelly, a man from Dayton, TN, get to pass over 500 pro touchdowns. Well, here is his story.

Andy Kelly was born in Dayton, TN, which is the main city in Rhea County. He went to Dayton City Elementary School. After he graduted from Dayton City, he went to Rhea County High School. During his high school football carrer, he went to 2 state title games, but lost both, won Mr. Football in TN in 1985. There is one thing some people don't know about Andy Kelly. He played basketball in high school. After he graduated from Rhea County High School, he went to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to play football for the Vols. He played from 1988 to 1991. His final carrer stats was he completed 514 passes out of 846 for 6,397 yards and 36 TDs. He also had 30 carrer rushing yards. While he was at UTK, he won back to back Southeastern Conference championships. Also while he was at UTK, he was became known as a come back from behind quarterback. He had more come backs at UTK then any other QB that ever gone to UTK. He holds one record at the University of Tennessee. That record is the longest passing play. He threw a 87 yard TD pass to Carl Pickens against Auburn in 1991.

After he graduted from UTK, he was invited to an Indy Colts training camp, but he did not go. The reason, he was a the hospital with former University of Tennessee football coach, Johnny Majors. But, he did go to two other training camps in the NFL. Those teams were the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers. He made to the final week of both teams, but was the last person to be cut. While he was with the Cards (his rookie season), he broke his thumb of his passing hand on the final preseason game.

When the NFL didn't work, he went to play for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe. He played with them for two years. After NFL Europe, he went to the Arena Football League.

He was played for four teams in his AFL carrer. Those teams are the Charlotte Rage, Nashville Kats, Dallas Desperados, and the Detriot Fury. When the Fury was facing the New York Dragons, he became the first pro quarterback to throw for 500 TDs in one league. He has also gone to two Arena Bowls (the AFL's Super Bowl). He lost both of them with the Nashville Kats. He and Kurt Warner are the only two AFL QBs to lose back to back Arena Bowls. Earlier in the 2003 AFL season, Andy became the first AFL QB to throw for 25,000 yards in a career.

One thing that might surprise many Andy Kelly fans, is that he does not think a lot about his records he has set in the Arena Football League. The only thing he cares about is winning football games.

Here is how many TDs he has thrown in the pros (NFL Europe and Arena Football League) :
